ConWatch: E3 Day 2 Round UP -- Lots of Trailers + Fallout 3, Eternal Sonata, MAG, Last Remnant, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion

Jul. 16 8:21 AM by Mandifesto

The second day of E3 was fairly light on the RPG news, but there were still a few gems worth mentioning. Here's what we gleaned as we scoured through the coverage, stuck our eyeballs to the live feeds, and cursed our day jobs that we couldn't be there alongside Lynxara.

* Todd Howard of Bethesda sat down to go through some of the gameplay in Fallout 3 with IGN's Live Wire. All I can say is oh, my GOD I need to spec Bloody Mess and soon. We'll have our own impressions on the game for you later on in the week. Until then enjoy a bit of a tease.

More juicy E3 RPG news and trailers after the jump.

* In a move that follows the cross-platform trend in gaming today, Namco announced yesterday that US Version of Eternal Sonata will be coming to the PS3 as well as the XBox 360. If you're a PS3 owner, you'll enjoy the new cut scenes and characters, who you can dress up in snazzy new outfits. The release date is no more specific than "this fall," but it's exciting to know that such a gorgeous game will becoming to the PS3 before year's end.

* Sony announced yesterday the new battle MMO dubbed MAG. 256 players will fight in massive campaigns organized into eight man squads. To me this looks like Call of Duty meets the battleground Alterac Valley from World of Warcraft. It could end up being little more than Team Fortress on crack, but it also could turn into a new type of MMO. We shall see.

* Technically this is news that slipped by me yesterday, but it's worth reporting that The Last Remnant is coming to the XBox 360 November 20th. While the term "XBox Exclusive" doesn't apply here as expected, 360 owners will receive their copies of the game first in an ambitious worldwide release. The Games for Windows and PS3 versions of the game will come along later.

* It might sound more like a fruit smoothie, but Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 was announced at the Activision press conference with a new moniker attached: Fusion. Seems that in the game you will be able to combine powers with a teammate and perform special attacks. While not a new idea, it certainly is a good one. I love any game that looks at the standard party makeup in an RPG in a novel, fresh way.

What makes combining powers in MUA2 pretty interesting is that if they implement it such that every character combines with everyone else, like... well, the first game had over two dozen characters if I remember it right. A power for every possible combination would be a lot of powers.

If we assume 24 playable characters, that each character set has one specific "Fusion" power, and that a character can not be duplicated to fuse with himself, then there would be 552 possible Fusion combinations in the game. (24 x 24 - 24)
