ConWatch: Final Fantasy XIII No Longer Sony Exclusive

Here at omgRPG we're glued to our monitors as we watch the live feeds from E3. I'm taking a pause from watching to let you guys know the first bit of RPG news. Final Fantasy XIII will be available on the XBox 360. While it's a small bit of info, it does mean that more gamers than ever will be able to experience the coming Square Enix opus, and for that reason alone I am glad.

OH YEA! now i can't wait for this game to come out. hopefully they will be released on both consoles at the same time.

 

You know, this may be the first Final Fantasy game to be multiplatform at launch. I know FFVII had a PC port but it came out way after the fact, and I can't remember if FFVIII or FFIX went PC (and if they did, if it was after launch or simultaneous).

 

I have a copy of both Final Fantasy VII and VIII for PC. Funny story, actually, When FF8 came out for the Playstation I picked it up the day it shipped and, after playing it for only four hours, promptly returned it. The combat, when running on my roommate's original PSX, was painfully slow, and I just couldn't get in to the game, which was a first for me and my beloved FF series. (Hell, I even enjoyed FF: Mystic Quest)

Several months after, when it was ported over to PC, I decided to give it another shot. The PC version ran much quicker/smoother and at a higher resolution (640x480). It is amazing the difference adequate hardware will make. To this day, FF8 is my favorite of the series.

 

I played FFVIII on the PSX, and it's absolutely in my bottom tier of FF titles. I mean, I also liked Mystic Quest, and frankly more than FFVIII when I think back on both games.

This makes me terribly curious about what the PC version changed-- I mean, in retrospect, what Square wanted to do with FFVIII was so hopelessly ahead of its time in visual and design terms that it's possible the hardware really did let the game down.

So in thinking more about multi-platform FFs, was FFXI out first on PC or PS2? I was thinking it might have been a simultaneous release, but I really want to remember the PC FFXI predated the PS2 FFXI by a good six months or so.

Seriously, I'd went out for a walk yesterday, came back and saw that. I was kinda gobstopped.

Hey, Squeenix, if you wanna bring over Versus XIII too, I won't mind. <.<

 

What I've heard through the grapevine is that Versus XIII is going to remain PS3 exclusive, but is currently far less important to Square than getting the main game out.
