Age of Conan: It's exciting fantasy, it's hit 700k subscribers, it's steak?

Last week Age of Conan fans were delighted to learn that the game had reached 700 subscribers, with 1 million copies of the game sold so far. In a recent Eurogamer interview, Mr. AoC himself Gaute Godager talked about why he thinks AoC is steadily gaining in popularity. He compared AoC to MMO giant World of Warcraft, stating that while WoW is like fast food, Age of Conan is more of a hearty steak dinner. Is Godager justifiably proud of his baby, or is he claiming depth that really isn't there? That's a tough one to answer, but I can tell you around here, everyone purchased AoC and played on launch day (and collector's edition owners before launch day) and yet no one seems to be interested in the game anymore.

Despite waning interest in the office, Godager isn't the only one that is happy with AoC, so is Bioware . In an IGN interview, Bioware co-CEOs Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk let it be known that they are having a blast playing Age of Conan. "I think it's exciting fantasy," said Zeschuk, proclaiming that the excitement buzzing around AoC can only mean good things for Bioware, who is also in the MMO dev biz these days. For Bioware, AoC's success paves the way for their own projects, and I would have to agree. Any experimentation that encounters success will allow for more new and exciting things in MMO development, and that's always good news for us gamers out there.

I've heard that once you get past level 30 that the game really falls apart. I wonder what level those happy Bioware players are.

I've also heard that Age of Conan hates women, what with the damage-reduction animation bug for female characters and every female character in the game having to be a rape victim as part of her official backstory.

So if AoC is a steak, I like to think of it as a steak fried by a tired, barefoot woman with two black eyes in miserable roach-infested kitchen, for fear that her husband will beat her some more if she takes too long.

(I kid, Age of Conan! If I play a male character, it's pretty much exactly like playing a Robert E. Howard novel or an old John Buscema comic. But why do all the women got to be Red Sonja? She sucks.)

Well, I haven't eaten steak in about 10 years so I may as well avoid this one.

If it was toro nigiri (fatty tuna) I think I'd have to play it.
