No FFXIII in 2008?!

Feb. 17 8:19 PM by Mark Burnham

In what scientists are calling "the worse news we've heard in years," FFXIII might not make its way to eager U.S. soil in 2008. At least that's what Yoichi Wada is alluding to in an interview with Nikkei Torendinetto (via NeoGAF). The biggest loser here is, quite honestly, the PlayStation 3. Even for folks who'd remained Sony-hopeful all this time, riding on fond memories of the PlayStation 2, this is a pretty hard slap in the face with a cold hand. The reason? Because (get ready) Dragon Quest IX is also a big game, and releasing both in the same year would be cumbersome for Square Enix. Now, I'll admit I'm not a big corporate strategist, but if I were trying to, say, revitalize a console's chances in the U.S., do you go first with "Final Fantasy," almost a household name here (i.e. my mom knows what that is), or Dragon Quest?

Any and all rants are welcome.

Withholding Final Fantasy XIII from us for another year is bordering on a crime against humanity, and I'm fairly certain there are stipulations in the Geneva Convention that cover just such an act of torture. What the PS3 needs more then anything else at the moment is a few solid RPGs, and while Folklore is pretty good for an Action RPG it can't hold down the fort alone much longer.

Give us Final Fantasy XIII and White Knight Story, or give us (figurative, non-life threatening) death!

Who knows what square is into when it comes down to with this. Dragon Quest will not sell as many copies as Final Fantasy will. Might as well get it out there and get the people who usually wouldn't buy it (I.E.- Everyone who has been salivating for a good eastern RPG for the PS3 - god knows I'd pay double for one right about now). If we are lucky maybe first or second quarter next year...but even more seriously, I think for this they should really appease us with a Next Gen version of FF VII
