Last night, like so many of you, I stood in line to get my copy of Fallout 3, eager to finally get my shot living with the rest of the people in Vault 101. Now that I have my Vault Boy bobblehead grinning up at me from my desk, I simply can't wait to play the game. Not everyone is as happy as I am about the game, however. In fact, one man is lashing out against the latest Fallout 3 ad campaign, which features ads plastered all over the Washington DC metro stations depicting well-known DC landmarks such as the Capitol Building destroyed as a result of apocalypse. Now I know the difference between an ad and the real thing, but apparently Joseph Anzalone is offended.
According to Game Politics Mr. Anzalone wrote into the Washington Post alleging that these ads are tasteless, an unneeded reminder that Washington DC is a "constant target of attack." Perhaps the dystopian depiction of a future in ruins hits closer to home that Mr. Anzalone would wish. In any case, this will no doubt start another "video games are the devil" campaign. As I prepare for the fallout (pun totally intentional) I will console myself with a romp within Fallout 3.
