My Interview With Felicia Day of The Guild

Oct. 14 2:03 PM by Crimson N Clover

As you all know, we here at OmgRPG had the wonderful opportunity of going to BlizzCon 08; but that's not all. I, CnC, was able to meet one of my favorite people: Felicia Day. She is the writer and star of one of the greatest web series out there currently, The Guild.

The Guild is, as they call it: A show about gamers, written by gamers, for gamers. Basically, it is a look into the real lives of an MMORPG guild named The Knights of Good.

I was able to ask Miss Day a few questions before the whole The Guild crew took off to lunch:

Felicia Day originally wrote The Guild as a 30 min trailer for TV. When her friend and producer Kim Evey, creator of the wed series Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show, read the screen play, she immediately thought it was perfect for the web. She convinced Felicia to put it up on the interwebs, and it has been a huge hit with gamers ever since.

When asked why she chose the particular MMO characters (The Guilds' main cast play a Warlock, Priest, Mage, Paladin and Rogue) Felicia let OmgRPG know that she based the characters off the actors. She actually wrote two of the parts for Jeff Lewis (Vork, Paladin) and Sandeep Parikh (Zaboo, Warlock) whom she knew from an Improvisational group she was a part of in Los Angeles.

One of my favorite quotes from the whole interview was something she said next: It was important to her to have as many men as woman in The Guild stating that "girl gamers are under represented." I gave her a huge dorky thumbs-up when she said that.

We got on to the subject of The Guild Season 2. The scripts are nearly done, though Felicia admits she is always quirking and editing things as she goes. I asked how long she saw The Guild running for, and she told me about how when she is writing scripts, she is constantly discovering new personality traits and new adventures for the cast. She is always thinking to herself "Oh, they should do that next season." If there are as many seasons as Felicia has imagination, then the show will go on for a very long while; and I am very excited about that!

Next season they are upgrading to high definition, which means that the once small crew in Felicia's' house has grown to over 20 people. The crew has begun taking behind the scenes photos to let us viewers see all that goes on behind the scenes. The making of any web series, especially one as amazing as The Guild, is very hard work indeed.

I was very thrilled to meet with Felicia. She is amazingly sweet, as is her producer Kim. I ran in to Jeff (Vork) a couple times during our BlizzCon trip, and he too is a very cool guy. They are all incredibly approachable and humble.

I hope to someday have the opportunity to meet the whole cast of The Guild. Until then, I am eagerly anticipating Season 2 of The Guild.

Happy gaming,

CnC
